“Imperfect understanding is often more dangerous than ignorance.” – J.K Rowling (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)
We live in a comfortable world where differences are only sometimes accepted. Our generation tolerates differences more than the previous generations ever did. We are moving in the right direction, however; there continues to be a fear of the unknown. A tendency to reject. But think on in for a moment. Wouldn’t your world be far more interesting if you knew all the possibilities? Better yet, understood it?
Right now I am at the age where I am continually searching for something to make myself feel whole. I question my choices each day, wondering if I have made the right one so far. Understanding differences in this world whether it be people, choices, values, and even religion can help us make sense of the world. Maybe, just maybe, there will be less tension between cultures, less death caused by fear and days spent living rather than wondering.
Go out there, learn something new, take every opportunity the day provides. Even if it’s scary and unfamiliar. Embrace the world, all of it, and the world will embrace you back.
